Advisory board makes pick for EMS director

A five-member advisory board will endorse an Oglethorpe County man to take the Madison County EMS director job at a county commission meeting scheduled for tonight.

The Madison County Public Safety Advisory Board, made up of representatives from various public safety and law enforcement agencies, picked Jason Miles Lewis, Oglethorpe County's assistant EMS director, for the position, said county Commission Chairman Anthony Dove.

"We think he's going to be the best fit," Dove said.

Madison County commissioners are expected to vote on Lewis' appointment at an April 5 scheduled meeting.

The EMS director position was left vacant when former longtime Director Dwayne Patton resigned in January after officials found some county EMTs were trading shifts and not documenting the change on their time cards.

Commissioners named an advisory board to recommend a qualified candidate and coordinate the county's public safety agencies.

Advisory board members include Sheriff Kip Thomas, EMA Director Johnny Bridges, Fire Chiefs Association President Marc Perry, First Responders Coordinator Frank
