Frequently Asked Questions - Directory

Have a question about listing your pick your own farm / fruit stand or correcting a directory listing?  We'll try to answer your questions below but if it is still not clear feel free to contact us.

How do I list my farm in the directory?

Click on "Add a farm" in the drop down menu below "Farm Directory."   Fill in the required (marked with *) fields on tabs 1 through 5.  Click on at least one category and then click the ">>>" button to move the category into the box on the right.  Check the box stating you accept the terms of use and click "Send."  Your listing should now be live.

My farm is listed in the directory but I did not list it.  How did it get listed and how can I edit it?

Your farm may have been added by a site visitor / customer of yours or it may have been created by the webmaster from a public information source.  Please create a new one using the steps shown above and Contact Us to have us delete your old one.  Please put "Delete" in your subject line and include the listing title and farm location (city and state) in the message.   Alternatively you could click on the "Report Listing" link in the directory listing and choose duplicate listing as the reason.

I added a listing but the map is not shown or is not working properly.  Why?

In order for the map to show up and work correctly it needs to have longitude and latitude coordinates.  Don't know yours?  Just edit your listing and hit the "Get Coordinates" button in the 1st tab.

How long do listings stay active in the directory?

Your listing will be active for 2 years from the date of listing.  You can renew them online during the last 30 days or after they expire.  You will receive an e-mail from us before your listing expires so be sure to add webmaster@pickyourownfruit . net (without the spaces) to your safe sender's list or it might get caught in spam filters.

How do I edit my listing after it is active?

Log in on the home page and then find your listing.  You can find it by searching by zip code.  Open your listing to the profile view and scroll down.  Click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the page and edit the fields you wish.  You will need to re-accept the terms of use and click send for your changes to be saved.

What are the meta description and meta keyword fields for?

The meta description field may be shown below the link in search results.  Different search engines display things differently but one or two sentences should be entered here summarizing and giving the highlights of the listing.

Meta keywords are used by some search engines to determine if the page is a good match for a search result.  You can put in applicable terms separated by a comma (i.e. you pick blue berries, organic, farm, Charlotte, NC).  Since Google does not use keywords try to work as many of these terms into your product description as possible.  

Not all of my produce is certified organic.  Can I still check the organic box?

Yes, but please specify which products are organic and which are not in the description.  If you follow organic practices but are not certified please add this in the description but do not check the box.

What are the user ratings and reviews used for?

Visitors to your farm who visit the site can give feedback and rate their experience.  Be sure to tell your visitors about our site so they can write a review and encourage others to experience your farm.  

Can I have more than one picture in my listing?
